Chinese Pokémon jumbo vs slim booster boxes: what’s the difference?
Most Simplified Chinese Pokémon expansions are released in two booster box formats, jumbo and slim. They contain the same set but in very different packs, and the right choice depends on how you sell.
The numbers
| Format | Packs per box | Cards per pack | Cards per box | Boxes per case |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jumbo booster box | 6 | 20 | 120 | 12 or 20 |
| Slim booster box | 15 | 5 | 75 | 20 |
| Gem Pack booster box | 18 (15 on Vol.2) | 4 | 72 | 20 |
Figures are typical for current sets on our list. Some older or special releases differ; each product page gives the exact contents of the case you’re ordering.
Jumbo boxes
Six thick packs per box, each with 20 cards. Jumbo packs make a satisfying single opening, which is why live sellers like them: one pack is a full moment on stream. They also sell well whole, as a box, to collectors.
Slim boxes
Fifteen smaller packs of 5 cards. The lower price per pack makes slim packs easy to sell individually, in pack battles or as add-ons, and fifteen packs give you more openings per box.
Gem Packs
Gem Pack (CBB) boxes are a Chinese-exclusive series with no English equivalent: 18 packs of 4 cards in current volumes. Their exclusivity is the selling point.
Which should you stock?
- Live sellers: jumbo for headline openings, slim for volume and pack-by-pack sales. Many stock both of the same set.
- Card shops: sealed jumbo boxes for the shelf and collectors; slim packs to sell singly at the counter.
- Online retailers: Gem Packs and the newest CSV sets for search demand, since buyers look for them by name.
Because the £2,000 minimum can mix any lines, most first orders combine a jumbo case and a slim case of the same set. See today’s list for what’s available.
